2007 ELECTRICIANS SKILL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM CLASS SCHEDULE
1. INSTRUMENTATION TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATION –
LEVEL I and II COURSES
These are hands on and theory courses
that provide training in the skills required to install and calibrate
instruments used for process control applications. These are courses
emphasizing skills relating to instruments used to measure pressure,
temperature flow and level. There is a considerable amount of home study
required to complete this course and qualify to take the Level I or II National
Certification exam. The cost for this exam is approximately $350 per test
session, which will be divided equally among the number of examinees taking the
test. Each class is limited to 6
students.
PREREQUISITE LEVEL I: Knowledge of basic motor control COURSE

Completion of Instrumentation

2. OSHA 500 - 10 HOUR CONSTRUCTION
SAFETY COURSE
This course is specific to our
industry, and covers many topics on safety including an introduction to the
Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and the Code of Federal Regulations
(CFR) and how these regulations apply to safety. Classes will be on Thursday nights.
PREREQUISITES:
NONE COURSE FEE: $85.00
TIME:
5 - 3 hour sessions
** Each person must attend all five (5)
classes (no absences) to receive OSHA Certification for completion of this
course and a refund of the class fee.
* 3. ELECTRICAL MOTOR CONTROLS
This course is an in depth study of the
development of a control circuit from its most basic form to very complex
control system. Those who have taken
this course claim it helps a great deal on the job in understanding and
planning your control layout wiring system step by step.

* 4. CODE CALCULATIONS
This is a code study
course which covers the different types of calculations required to properly
apply the rules outlined in the National Electrical Code. This course is divided into 10 sections, each
covering a different area that requires calculations. The course is designed to show examples of
how the Code is applied to specific applications. Completion of this course should be very
helpful for those who are planning to take a license examination, which
includes NEC calculations.

5. CODEOLOGY - NATIONAL ELECTRICAL
CODE
Codeology is a short course that
teaches the use and understanding of the electrical code book. With completion of this course, an
electrician will be more experienced and proficient at using and understanding
the National Electrical Code Book.

6. ELECTRICAL GROUNDING - 2005 NATIONAL
ELECTRICAL CODE
This course starts with the ground
(earth) and works its way to the end of the circuit. This course is based on the 2002 National
Electrical Code and explains grounding systems and layout. An excellent new approach to the teaching the
most important article in the code.

8. COYNE FIRST AID/CPR
This course is very important to the
health of our membership and their families.
First Aid and CPR skills are used away from work or at home 90% of the
time. There will be no course fee for this course and will be held on Saturday. This class is open to the members and their
spouse.

9. JOURNEYMAN COMMUNICATIONS AND JOURNEYMAN
PRODUCTIVITY
This course is designed to help
journeymen realize the importance of productivity and good communication on the
job

10. COMMON NEC VIOLATIONS
The NEC is the lifeblood of our industry as well as a lifesaver to
the general public. Section 90.1(A) states that
the purpose of the Code is the "practical safeguarding of persons and
property from hazards arising from the use of electricity".
Encompassing nearly 800 pages and changing every three years, it can be
challenging to assure that we are following the intent of the NEC. This
course will cover some of the more common code violations including
conductor ampacity, grounding electrode systems, and box fill calculations
as well as some common misconceptions as to the intent of code.

11. HIGH VOLTAGE CABLE SPLICING &
TERMINATING
This course includes the
actual Splicing and Terminating of 15 KV polyethylene type cable in class using
the tape method (hand made) and the factory kit method including tips on the
safe handling methods of doing this type work.

12. BASIC ELECTRIC WELDING - THIS CLASS WILL BEGIN ON SEPTEMBER 22,
2007
This is a course for beginning welders, you
will learn welding safety, how to electric weld steel plates of various
thicknesses, how to properly use a cutting torch, and how to set up the
electric welders for different type welds and the proper use of oxygen and
acetylene gas equipment.

13.
CONDUIT BENDING
This course is designed to teach the beginner
the basic concepts of conduit bending using a variety of different
benders. The lessons cover the basics
such as bending 90 degree stubs, offsets and kicks, as well as progressing into
three and four bend saddle, also instruction on the fundamentals of concentric
and segment bending.

COURSES 2 - 7 ARE REFUNDABLE IF
ATTENDANCE IS AT LEAST 80% AND GRADE IS 75% OR BETTER.
ELIGIBILITY: This
training is available to ALL JOURNEYMEN WIREMEN, INTERMEDIATE JOURNEYMEN, CONSTRUCTION
WIREMEN/ELECTRICIANS, INSTALLER TECHNICIANS, AND RESIDENTIAL WIREMEN MEMBERS,
who are currently employed or subject to be employed under the L. U. 1141 Agreement.
NOTIFICATION:
You will be notified of the starting date of the classes. Notification of rejected applications, due to
class size, will be mailed as soon as possible.
If your second choice is available, you will be notified.
